Susan Elizabeth Sluger, 58, of Frederick, died October 2, 2007, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 3, 1948 in Strasburg, Austria. Susan was the wife of Jerry Sluger and daughter of Chief Warrant 0fficer IV (Ret) Walter E. Frey and Jean P. Frey of Frederick. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, James Murray and wife Shay of Alameda, Calif.; Craig Murray and wife Suzanne, of Burlington, Mass.; Carolyn Owens and husband Jason, of Smithsburg; Elise Ravenscroft and husband Tim, of Washington, D.C.; and Leslie Sluger and husband Bill Angelis of Takoma Park.
Susan was employed for many years by Allstate Insurance, where she met her beloved husband. She retired in 2006 to spend more time with her family. Susan loved traveling with Jerry, particularly to Orlando and Tybee Island. She enjoyed photography, scrapbooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Declan and Kieran Murray, Leah and Trevor Owens, Claire, Andrew and Julia Ravenscroft, and Evalyn and Dorothea Angelis.
In addition, she is survived by her siblings, Patricia Borja and husband Tony of Rockville, Chief Master Sgt Christopher (Kit) Frey and wife Sandy of Warner Robbins, Ga., Catherine Calloway and husband Jay, of Gettysburg, Pa., Lt. Col. (Ret) Neil Frey and wife Holly, of Lansing, Kan., Margarite deSoliel and companion Rob Cruickshank, of Big Indian, N.Y., Constance Chappelear and husband Walter, of Columbus, Ohio, Paul Frey and wife Laurie, of Frederick, Matthew Frey and partner Mike Gatty, of Rehobeth Beach, Del., and Maj. Greg Frey and wife Linda, of West Point, N.Y. She is remembered by her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Susan had many close friends as well as special friends Blanche and David Anderson.
A memorial service has been planned for December 3, 2007 in Frederick, MD in honor of her life and in celebration of her birthday. Details will be forthcoming. Susan fought her 12-year battle with cancer with determination, optimism and grace.
