I realize that older adults are skeptical when it comes to any type of internet and social media fads. I noticed the lack of interaction over the years to the simple, fun-type websites and blogs I created for classmates and Army friends; thus, it seems that older folks just are intimidated or simply don’t dig this internet stuff called social media. I went to Yedda and asked “Are senior adults using Twitter?” and received the following responses:
OronD answered: Hi Lenora, ----- Senior citizens use the computer much less than young people who were born to it. To most senior citizens the computer is a mysterious thing and many are scared to death even to try using it. Twitter is far above it first make them feel comfortable with basic applications (word, excel, powerpoint, e-mails, internet, etc…) and only then expect they’ll use more sophisticated applications. An old lady approached me once and said: “The happiest day in my life will be when I’ll be able to send my grandson an e-mail….. will you guide me how to do it ? That tells it all…-- Best regards,
Jayson answered: Good day Lenora, I have found several folks, "wiser in their years" and "younger at heart" involved with twitter. I think it is the perfect tool to introduce folks to internet communication and sharing. It’s easier then email with no complicated software to install or maintain. I am creating a tutorial series to help folks get started with twitter. This first video http://bit.ly/M69TQ may be of interest to you and your friends wanting to learn twitter. Hope this has been helpful and I would love to see more "wisdom" on twitter from the ones that have gone before. After all they are our teachers.
All the best, Jayson http://jaysontcote.com
Really appreciate the responses from these people. I will post any new feedback I get from my Yedda question and request that you viewers make a comment to this question. Thanks. After I finish my in depth research of twitter, I will post my findings as to what I like and dislike about the service and let you decide for yourself.
