Clap, clap, clap. Once I picked up your book, I honestly read straight through until your days of thinking past retirement. I found it to be so interesting and informative. I had no idea how military life was. I have been so naive, that I thought a person was just automatically moved up, like going from seventh grade to eighth. I had no idea of the work and persistence that went with rank.
At some points in your book I felt sorry for you having to reinvent yourself all the time. You were and probably still are, such a fighter. Then I realized how much you have done for military women. My daughter is a business person and still has to fight her way, so even today things are not equal. But, your determination helped make things better for women then they were. I can't even imagine what a struggle it has been for black women. I do have to mention your openess about being gay. Such honesty. Good for you.
Your writing style captivated my attention for hours. I have started so many books and never get past the first chapter. I enjoyed your writing style and honestly am really looking forward to your next book. I hated to finish your book. You left me wanting more. I do hope you will be able to publicize your book locally. California University should be very proud of an alumnus like you. We need to call in Oprah! You know, I said that to be funny, but why don't you send her a copy? You had a lot to say, and you said it very well.
I enjoyed seeing Mama Byrd and your daughter at the reunion. To see your Mom you would never know she has a medical problem. I hope you sold a lot of books. I also enjoyed all of your photography. Some classmates looked wonderful and you can see some have had a hard life. I am so proud of my autographed book.
Fondly, Carol Brown Townsend (BHS Class of 1960)
Thanks so much Carol. Luv, Lenora
