Barry L. Cook, 70, of Brownsville, Pa., class of 1955, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born December 19, 1937, in Allison, Pa., the son of the late Virginia Irene Cook. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Cook in 1992, and his stepfather Louis Gordon.
Barry served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1958. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brownsville, Brownsville Lodge No. 60 F&AM, Monesson Chapter 205 OES and various other Masonic organizations. He also was a member of the Brownsville Fire Company No. 1 and served as the treasurer for over 20 years. He was a devoted public servant serving as the Mayor of Brownsville, and Brownsville Borough Council. In his free time he was an avid golfer.
He will be sadly missed by his companion, Madeline Kisner, three children: R. Barry Cook and wife, Kristin, of Coraopolis, Pa., Chris Cook of Brownsville, Pa., and Beth Cook of Brownsville, Pa.; and three grandchildren. Friends will be received in the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front Street, Brownsville, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, April 4, 2008, until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with Pastor Janice McClay officiating. Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa. Brownsville Lodge No. 60 F&AM will hold Masonic Services Thursday in the Funeral Home at 7:30 pm.
