Alumni Courtyard: First 46 Bricks Laid

Well, folks!  A seating bench and our first set of bricks is now in our Alumni Courtyard. Below are photos taken on August 12th of the progress made by our contractor who started this project in July.

First step: (build a seating bench and block off 5x5 foot space for 50 bricks),

Second step: Finish bench and lay 46 bricks purchased by alumni. Completed August 12, 2013:

Third Step: Sealing the bricks with sand sealeant.

Our first phase may not look that great, but visualize what this courtyard will look like when you folks start ordering your bricks.  We have over 900 alumni in our BAS FB Club and are waiting for members to jump on our bandwagon and order their bricks.  If you have not joined our alumni club please go to this link and chime in by posting/commenting there: BAS Alumni FB Club

As of Aug 14 we only have request for 20 bricks and need around 30 more to fill up our first 5x5 foot area (we have blank bricks laid in their place).   The next order of bricks will be submitted on or about August 20, so please order your bricks soon.  Email me if you have any questions at: Lenora1216@aol.com.

The seating bench has been installed in the courtyard (will share photo when I get it) and a 5 foot area has been prepared for laying the bricks. We only have a total of 48 bricks on hand to begin filling up our courtyard, so we definitely need more bricks.  I presently am working on my next order and have approximately 15 new folks who want a brick.  Once we get to 100 bricks laid in the courtyard, Dr. Savini will have a ribbon cutting for us at the courtyard.

We are on our way to paving our way at the high school!  Whippeeeeee!

Dear Brownsville Area Schools Alumni,

Our Organization has re-engineered and re-energized itself with new dedicated Board and Committee members eager to participate and propel our organization ahead. We are currently involved in a number of projects to keep our alumni in the forefront, one of which is the new BAS Alumni Brick Courtyard to be installed at the high school. Lenora will be posting photos of the progress made with the Courtyard for your info along with photos of the bricks ordered and installed to date. If you continue to maintain your pride in Brownsville and the education you received here, this is a wonderful way to display your support. Be sure to check out our BAS Blog and BAS FB Club to find all information needed to participate in our organization and project.

Additionally, we will begin the Distinguished Alumni Awards Program in 2014 subsequent to a brief hiatus which will be spearheaded by Chair, Bryce Connors and members Gary Seeyle and Ann Trynock. This program recognizes alumnus from the Brownsville Area Schools for their significant contributions in life. This program has been received with much enthusiasm in the past with a banquet and awards presentation and it is our intention to propagate this into the future.

We also have other projects being considered at the committee level. As these projects become reality we shall keep you informed and roll them out for your consideration. All of the above is possible because of the new members elected to the organization. I truly feel we are becoming a family of very intelligent, dynamic individuals who are dedicated to the alumni and Brownsville Area Schools Association.  I thank them always for their support and assistance, and am grateful for the opportunity to be in a position to work with them for this worthy cause.

Class of 1958 - 55th Reunion (Bid)

During the last planning meeting for the  55^th Reunion of the Class of 1958  (held on October 11, 2013), classmates Ken and Carol Lee Lippencott offered up 4 Steelers tickets for a Pre-season home game with the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, August 24. Seats are in Section 139, ground level near the 20 yard line. 

We are conducting a fund raiser for our class by bidding off these 4 tickets as a package deal (a retail value of $400). The bidding will begin with a bid of $150 for the 4 tickets.  The winning bidder will be notified by Albert Dascenzo and arrangements for tickets pick up/delivery will be made at that time.  He will also let the bidders know what the top bid is at the time of their bid via email or phone.
